The Cow Ponies w/ Special Guest Carter Hunnicutt @ Circle-A, Sat., 1.14.17

Happy Holidays from The Cow Ponies, man! This will always be a special time of year for us, as it’s the anniversary of our very first gig: December 26, 2015 at Circle-A doing Alive at 8. Seems fitting then that we do Alive at 8 again, this time in early-ish January, and with special guest Carter Hunnicutt, who’s both opening and sitting in with us in lieu of pedal-steeler Keith, who’ll be at a father-daughter dance that night. We’d love to see you there!cp_circleajan2017_jpg

The Cow Ponies w/ Alex Ballard & Sugarfoot @ Kochanski’s, Sat., 11.19.16

We had the good fortune to first meet up with Alex Ballard & Sugarfoot this past January when we performed together at Club Girabaldi in Bay View at the invitation of Doghouse Flowers. Three country bands – three very different country bands – on the same bill, in the middle of winter. Lots of people turned up, it was high-energy, it was wonderful. And it was only our second gig.

This past August, we and Alex & The Boys and Doghouse Flowers were together again, this time as three of seven bands playing the Milwaukee edition of the Gram Parsons 70th Birthday Bash at Linneman’s in Riverwest. On November 5, Alex, Jeff H., and Jeff J., along with Chrissy Dzioba of The WhiskeyBelles and Michael De Vogel traveled down to Nashville to perform at that city’s iteration of the traveling show.

Tonight, we’re happy to be performing together again with Alex Ballard & Sugarfoot at Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall, where we’ll be doing alternating sets starting at 9 p.m. The Cow Ponies are up first, then Alex Ballard & Sugarfoot, then we’ll do it all again. Wash, rinse, repeat. Come join us for a special night with what Shepherd Express called the  two “wildest” bands at the Gram Parson 70th Birthday Bash!

The Cow Ponies w/ Dave Arcari @ McAuliffe’s Pub, Sat., 10.15.16

Man, oh man, are we ever excited about this show at McAuliffe’s Pub! The last time John, Tom, and Robin played in Racine, it was with a different band, in a whole different lifetime.

One thing from back then that we’ve never forgotten is the loyal support of J J McAuliffe, owner of the Pub, and all the people of Racine, who were really good to us and kept us coming back for gigs throughout town. It goes without saying that we’re happy to be heading to Racine again – we hope it’s the start of another long and beautiful relationship.

Another thing we’re a thousand percent psyched about is being on the McAuliffe’s bill with national act Dave Arcari, the Scottish alt blues singer-guitarist who’s making his way around the States on tour, and whose videos we can’t get enough of on YouTube. Hell, just go to his website and check out the beard and the tatts and the voice, and you’ll start to know what we mean. #obsessed

Better yet, after you get your taste on the Internet, get yourself to McAuliffe’s to see us and Mr. Arcari (Dave opens the show) live and in living color. It’ll be a pretty wild night. Count on it.

The Cow Ponies @ Gram Parsons 70th Birthday Bash @ Linneman’s, Sat., 8.27.16

When we were asked to be a part of Cosmic American Productions’ 9th Annual Gram Parsons Birthday Bash, we were like, “Are you sure? We’re so rowdy.”

Nicknamed the “Heartland Show,” the Linneman’s leg of the traveling one-night festival celebrates Gram Parsons and his far-reaching influence on country music (and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones), with the ultimate goal of getting Parsons inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. One of Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Most Important Artists of All Time,” Parsons died in 1973 at the age of 26. This November would have been his 70th birthday.

After Will James, organizer of the Birthday Bash, told us “You’re in,” one thing led to another, and here we are, one rehearsal away from headlining the show this Saturday night at Linneman’s River West Inn on Locust Ave., 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Seven country-influenced bands from Chicago and Milwaukee will each play 40-minute sets, including some Parsons’ songs and their own original material. The Cow Ponies’ set starts at midnight.

Two of the Milwaukee bands that will also be there are Doghouse Flowers and Alex Ballard & Sugarfoot, with whom we played in one hella-stellar show back in January.

Admission at the door is $10. That’s a buck-forty-three per band. Yeah. We’ll see ya there.

Last weekend, our drummer Andy played at DEVOtional, the annual two-day tribute to Devo at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, with his other band, dear friends Xposed 4Heads. When you see him, ask him about it. They killed it.

The Cow Ponies w/ Law & Love @ Circle-A Café, Sat., 8.6.16

If you’re part of the old Milwaukee music scene – and even if you’re not – you’ll love this show, a more-than-friendly face-off between John Graham of the Rock-A-Dials slash Tom T of Those X-Cleavers, and Bobby Steele of Tense Experts: three guys whose bands were highly influential in the 80s scene, who have been making music all along since that magical time in Mil-town’s musical history. Check out their newest projects – John and Tom T in The Cow Ponies, and Bobby in his Rockford, IL-based Law & Love. Lotsa mutual respect there. So intriguing that Robin’s long-long-long-time besties are drivin’ over from Cleveland (OH, not WI) to check it out. You should too.

The Cow Ponies @ Linneman’s River West Inn, Fri., 7.29.16

We’re very proud and happy to announce that we’re playing with The Mosleys at Linneman’s River West Inn in a few weeks, on Friday, July 29! Some of us have been crazy about Mike Fredrickson’s solo projects for a long time, and earlier in the year, a couple of us went to see The Mosleys at Kochanski’s on a Sunday and were blown away. Wayn-o was right all along when he kept telling us, “You GOTTA check ’em out.” Love and thanks to our Tom T for proposing the idea of this show to Mike and then setting it all up. As we all want it to be kind of an early night (and maybe you do too), The Cow Ponies will start around 8, and The Mosleys will be on about 9:45.  We’re rolling out a few brand-new songs, and would love to see you there!
